EGG DONOR PROCEDURE

A woman should first generate a healthy egg to become pregnant, but some women have poor quality eggs or no eggs at all. This problem creates difficulties for them to become pregnant or holding their pregnancies to term. To solve this problem, some women consider other reproductive options, including the use of donor eggs. Assisted reproductive technology (ART) is used to surgically remove the eggs from a woman's ovaries, combined with sperm in the laboratory and then returned to the recipient's uterus. ART techniques include Gamete Intrafallopian Transfer (GIFT), Zygote Intrafallopian Transfer (ZIFT), Tubal Embryo Transfer (TET) and the type that's best known, In Vitro Fertilization (IVF).

Donation of egg is one way to help infertile women/couples to have babies. Donation of egg process comprises of following steps after the consultation with reproductive endocrinologists, selection of donor etc.

Once Donor and recipient have matched and medical and legal procedures to get completed, woman starts a multi step medical phenomenon before egg harvesting.Synchronization:

The donor and recipient's menstrual cycles should primarily be coordinated which involves many steps. On the first day of menstruation, a physician examines the donor's ovarian function by the means of blood tests and a vaginal ultrasound, and the donor starts taking birth control pills.

3. Natural ovulation of the donor must be suppressed next which can be done through routine injections of Gonadotropin agonists which blocks the hormones naturally sectreted by the pituitary gland.

4. Routine blood tests and vaginal ultrasound examinations are done to keep on check the whole process during the four weeks of complete cycle in addition to birth control pills and GnRH agonist injections. To complete this cycle, the donor stops administering birth control pills, having a menstrual period synched with the recipient's cycle.

5. Stimulation of ovaries:

The next step is stimulation of the ovaries which can be done by injecting hormones herself by the donor to facilitate the release of multiple mature eggs. Recipient too must start the medication to suppress her own ovulation and to thicken the lining of her uterus for upcoming embryo implantation.

Donor must undergoes frequent blood tests and ultrasounds to monitor egg follicle development. After the complete development of follicles, donor injects herself Human Chorionic Gonadotropin to facilitate her eggs separating from the follicle walls for retrieval. During the same time recipient adds progesterone injections to her list of medications which enables her body for the transfer of embryos.

6. Egg retrieval and embryo transfer:

After 34-36 hours of Human Chorionic Gonadotropin injection, eggs are collected by ultrasound-guided needle while the donor is under anesthesia. Harvested eggs are then combined with the sperm and after few days of incubation, two to four embryos are placed in the recipient's uterus via a thin tube inserted through her cervix. This process is known as In vitro fertilization.

Women egg donors may have some possible risks which include:

Bruising or hemorrhaging of the ovary from the needle used to collect the eggs.Ovarian hyperstimulation syndrome -very rare occurrence nowadays, this is a series of negative side effects experienced over a two-week period subsequenting the release of a large number of eggs, caused by elevated hormone levels resulting from hyperstimulated and enlarged ovaries due to fertility drugs used for egg growth.shell jams was born on 12 oct 1978 in Delhi India , was completed his Graduation From Delhi university and his special study interest in Egg donation India , Beta hcg values, IMSI treatment in India.
